About us
North Country Nets is a collaboration between woodworker Eric Larson and artist/guide, Ted Hansen.
Eric has over 50 years of experience bending wood. He started in high school and eventually learned to make traditional snowshoes with white ash frames. He and his wife created Larson & Larson Snowshoes and they would eventually expand to also build custom furniture and dogsleds. They live and work on a restored woodland near Milaca, MN where all the nets are made. Their focus was always to provide beautiful, durable products.
Ted Hansen is the primary designer of the net size, shape and length. He is an artist, guide and educator with over 35 years of fly fishing experience. Having known Eric for several years, he eventually asked about having a custom net built. He wanted a wooden net that was simple, easy to maintain (oil finish), had good reach and could be easily deployed. This net ended up being the “Minnesota” - capable of handling almost any fishing scenario short of the true giants.
Two years of prototypes, discussions, and fishing trips later, they now offer five sizes - the nimble “Spring Creek”, the workhorse “Minnesota”, the short handled workhorse “Kayaker”, the giant-ready “Superior”, and the extra reach “Boat Net”.
